Thursday Thereabouts

I got the idea for Thursday Thereabouts from the Epicrat blog.

Currently in the middle of...

Finding Nour by Zoe Ferraris. I am enjoying it so far. It takes place in Saudi Arabia, which is one of the strictist muslim countries. I had a thought about Islam. I wonder if the inital intent was to respect and honor women, but it has since become way too rigid and twisted so that woman have become second class citizens with no freedom or opportunities.

Survive by Peter Deleo. I am enjoying this memoir. Once I start reading it each evening I can hardly put it down. But it almost seems too incredible to be true. The odds the author overcame to hike out of the Sierra Neveda mountains seem insurmountable. Yet still a good read. And it has great reviews at goodreads.com

Finished with...

How to Steal a Dog by Barbara O'Connor

The Dive from Clausen's Pier by Anne Packer

The (neverending yet still enjoyable) Faith Club by Ranya Ildiby, Suzanne Oliver, and Priscilla Warner.

Tempted to start...

The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark. This is a book I got in the mail a few days ago from the paperbackswap. It is a classic with a copyright of 1961. Ready to give it a try!

Olive's Ocean by Kevin Henkes. Henkes writes lots of children books and some YA books. This book won the Newberry Award and has also been banned in many locations. Very interested to read it.

I hope you will soon read The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. It is a classic! I read it recently, and wrote a post on it (which I hope you'll read when you have a few spare moments). Olive's Ocean has been on banned book lists--and I'd like to read it in the future. I just finished The Giver, also for young adults, also on banned book lists.

Olives ocean, love the cover AND it was banned, very tempting.
Side not when Dylan's class read the Giver earlier this year, his teacher called me and asked if I would read it along with him. She was worried about the undertones of taking medication, knowing that Dylan was.
