Plot Summary

Hell on earth.

That’s what it’s like for Luce to be apart from her fallen angel boyfriend, Daniel.
It took them an eternity to find one another, but now he has told her he must go away. Just long enough to hunt down the Outcasts—immortals who want to kill Luce. Daniel hides Luce at Shoreline, a school on the rocky California coast with unusually gifted students: Nephilim, the offspring of fallen angels and humans.

At Shoreline, Luce learns what the Shadows are, and how she can use them as windows to her previous lives. Yet the more Luce learns, the more she suspects that Daniel hasn’t told her everything. He’s hiding something—something dangerous.
What if Daniel’s version of the past isn’t actually true? What if Luce is really meant to be with someone else?

Critical Evaluation

I read the first book in this series a year ago. And I picked up the book at the library simply because of the cover art. Fallen is the title of the first in the series. I thought the book was okay. Then for this class I read the second in the series. I think the second one was worst than the first. I like the paranormal romance part of the book, but I don't really like any of the characters. Luce and Daniel have been "lovers" since the beginning of time. Daniel lives forever but Luce dies over and over again at about the age seventeen. Daniel is very controlling. He tells Luce what to do but offers no explanation for his reasons. I think they present a very bad example of how a relationship should work.

Reader’s Annotation

Luce and Daniel have been meant for each other since the beginning of time, literally. Now if they can just figure out how to actually be together.
