I haven't recommended books for quite awhile. One reason is just being plain busy and not getting to it. But the other reason is I struggle trying to decide what books to recommend. I want to recommend books that I enjoyed and thought were well-written, yet not books that I want to use for book club in the future. So that makes the selection of recommended books rather difficult. But here goes some recommendations:
At Home in Mitford by Jan Karon. This books is the first in a series of nine books thus far. It is a pleasant, happy read yet interesting and well-written. I have enjoyed all of her books thus far. I HIGHLY recommend this series because after all the difficult books I read these books are so peaceful and soothing for me.
My next recommendation is Place Last Seen by Charlotte M Freeman. I read this book many years ago and was emotionally haunted by the story. Have kleenexs ready.
My last recommendation today is a book I just recently finished. It is entitled The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett. Here is some of the praise for the book: “Bennett’s deadpan, self-deprecating humor translates perfectly.”
—David Gates, O, The Oprah Magazine. "A prose stylist of disarming grace and sly humor.” —The New York Times Book Review. Oh, dear, I just found a great list of reading group discussion questions for this book. Maybe we should read this book for book club sometime. I don't know. Probably not. So go enjoy it. It is a funny, quick read.
Happy reading!
