Review:Babymouse is a graphic novel illustrated in black, white, and pink. Although the reading level is actually fairly easy, the themes and setting are more conducive to Junior High.

Babymouse wants an invitation to Felicia Furrypaws slumber party. Felicia is the most popular girl in school. Babymouse tries all sorts of things to secure an invitation. Babymouse finally succeeds in procuring an invitation by allowing Felicia to cheat by using Babymouse’s book report as her own. Obviously Felicia leaves a lot to be desired in the friend’s department.

Babymouse is so excited for the slumber party. She ditches her best friend Wilson the Weasel to go to Felicia’s slumber party. Unfortunately, Felicia’s party is not at all what Babymouse expected. All the girls do is sit around, gossip, and watch romantic movies. Felicia treats Babymouse like the servant. The final straw is when Babymouse overhears Felicia saying mean things about Wilson. Babymouse hightails it out of there and makes it to Wilson’s house in time for scary movies.

This book has many appealing factors. First, it is visually appealing. Second, the text is easy which can appeal to reluctant readers. And third, although the story line is fairly predictable, which can be a bonus for reluctant readers; it is still an enjoyable read.
