Thursday Thereabouts

I got this idea from the epic rat blog and thought I would give it a try.

Currently in the middle of...

The Faith Club by Ranya Idliby, Suzanne Oliver, and Priscilla Warner
Three women get together regularly to discuss religion. They are muslim, christian, and jewish. They bring up some very interesting thoughts about God and religion.

The Zookeeper's Wife by Diane Ackerman
I'm only on page 34 so still just barely involved. Polish zookeepers save over 300 people from the Nazis by hiding them in the empty animal cages. It is nonfiction which I did not realize when I started it, but I am still very interesting by the story.

Finished with...

The Rest of Her Life by Laura Moriarty
This book starts out with a traumatic event and the rest of the story is how the family deals with this event. The narrator also spends a lot of time reflecting on her life and her relationship with her mother and her daughter. I enjoyed all the character development.

Summer by Edith Wharton
I had to read this book for one of my library classes. We had to read 1 book and watch 1 movie with a librarian as the main character. Summer was written in 1916, I think. I haven't read an older book for a long time. I enjoyed it. I really need to branch out in my reading selections.

Tempted to start...

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
I am really craving a story. Give me a story. Everything I have read for nearly two weeks now has been nonfiction. I am having fiction withdrawals!

How to Steal a Dog by Barbara O'Connor
I get to read this book for the book club Brooke and I go to at the public library once a month. The club meets on the 28th of this month, so I have a few days to get going.

What about you?
What are you in the middle of?
What have you finished?
What are you tempted to start?

"Uglies" by Scott Westerfield - a YA novel about a world in which age at 16 everyone is surgically altered to be beautiful except the rebels who run off and hide. This book was recommended to me by McKayla and I am enjoying it.

"The 5000 Year Leap: A Miracle that Changed the World" by W. Cleon Skousen - also subtitled Principles of Freedom 101 it does read like a textbook. It is a text on the founding fathers and their 28 great ideas (principles) on which our Constitution and sytem of government were based. I'm learning lots!

"Princess: A True Story of Life Behind the Veil in Saudi Arabia" by Jean P. Sasson - I am only about 50 pages into this one so I don't have a good feel for it yet. I am entranced by life for women in Saudi Arabia so I think I'll like it.

Finished with...
"A Curse Dark as Gold" by Elizabeth C. Bunce - This is a fairytale retelling and I love those! This particular one is Rumpelstilskin and is written as historical fiction. Great imagery. It is also romantic and clean!

"Temple Worship: 20 Truths That Will Bless Your Life" by Andrew C. Skinner - a difficult book (some of it over my head) but it contained some absolutely priceless quotes which emphasize the importance of the temple. I will use those quotes regularly in teaching.

Tempted to Start...
"The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" by C.S. Lewis - it has been way too long since I last read this one and I am really craving some Lewis!

"Why We Make Mistakes: How We Look Without Seeing, Forget Things in Seconds, and Are All Pretty Sure We Are Way Above Average" by Joseph T. Hallinan - doesn't the title say it all? I think I could learn a thing or two from this book.
