Last night we met to discuss The Camel Bookmobile by Masha Hamilton. I enjoyed the conversation. I do not think this book MOVED a lot of people. The character development in the book seemed a bit weak and the ending although probably accurate was abrupt.
The social issue questions the book inspired seemed to be the highlight of the discussion and the strong points of the book. Can literacy and literature truly be destructive to a tribal culture? Is battling illiteracy always the right/moral answer? These questions and others are interesting to ponder.
Overall, I would give the book 3 1/2 out of 5*.
