We meet tonight at 7pm at Marvelle's house to discuss The Camel Bookmobile by Masha Hamilton. I hope everyone is ready to talk, talk, talk! Here are few questions to get you thinking:
**One of the main conflicts in the book is between the library proponents and those who fear the imposition of Western values and the loss of centuries of tradition. Can the Camel Bookmobile be seen as an allegory for what's still taking place in the world today? Is there a lesson to be learned?
**What is gained (or lost) by the use of multiple viewpoints to tell the story?
**Each character is changed in some way by the bookmobile? Think/discuss these changes.
**What do you think about Mr. Abasi's rule that losing even a single book means the bookmobile will not return to the village?
**Why do you think educated people are feared by the illiterate?
(These questions were taken from this site, but I found many sites with good questions.)
